ELI WHITNEY 36 cal. Percussion 2nd Model Navy revolver – ANTIQUE
This revolver is a stunning example of the beautiful ELI WHITNEY 36 caliber NAVY revolver circa 1860’s CIVIL WAR firearm with providence.
ELI BLAKE WHITNEY III (1820 – 1895) was the founder of the WHITNEY ARMOURY (New Haven, Connecticut, USA) and the son of ELI WHITNEY Jr., the inventor of the cotton gin (1783)
This specimen is of the early second model production with serial # 4026 (Above # 6000 the loading lever catch was changed from this ball detent to wedge type
This revolver is “in the white” basically having little finish left and some minor pitting on barrel and frame. The rifling is good with some pitting near cylinder but is well defined closer to the muzzle. Action it tight, lock up is perfect and timing perfect. Simply a piece of CIVIL WAR HISTORY
PROVIDENCE: This revolver was the personal sidearm of MAJOR C.W. SMITH of Cornel Baker’s First Californian Regiment, a volunteer militia circa 1861.
This revolver is supplied with printed records from the internet archives indicating Captain C.W. SMITH was in charge of Company C of the Second Infantry California Volunteers and with Company A was mustered to Fort Dalles, Oregon to report to duty circa October 1861 during the civil war.
