Privacy Policy
Canadian Firearm Exchange is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
We collect the information necessary to verify your account, facilitate transactions, and maintain platform safety. This includes your name, email address, and the city and province you provide during sign-up. We also collect listing content, messages between members, and IP addresses for security and compliance purposes. If you choose to verify your account by credit card, your card number, expiry and security code are entered on a secure form hosted by our payment processor (Moneris) and are never stored by us; the postal code you enter for the bank's address check is sent securely to the processor and is not kept by us.
How we use your information
Your information is used to verify your Canadian residency and identity, process transactions, enable member-to-member communication, and ensure compliance with the Firearms Act. We analyze platform activity to detect prohibited items, fraudulent behaviour, and security threats. We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties.
Data security
We employ industry-standard encryption for data in transit and at rest. Access to personal information is restricted to authorized personnel only. We do not collect or store payment card information — card verification is handled entirely by our payment processor over a secure connection.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information. You may request a copy of your data or ask us to erase your account and associated records, subject to legal retention requirements related to firearms transactions. Contact us to exercise these rights.
Communication
We send transactional emails related to your account, listings, and transactions. We may also send platform updates or policy changes that affect your use of the exchange. You can manage notification preferences in your account settings.
Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and the exchange functioning securely. With your consent, we also use first-party analytics cookies to understand how the site is used and to improve it. All analytics are collected exclusively by our own first-party tracking system — we do not use any third-party analytics services, and the hosting platform's built-in visitor analytics has been disabled so no platform-injected tracking scripts run on this site. You can choose "Essential only" at any time from the cookie banner, or clear your choice in your browser settings. Regardless of your choice, we keep an anonymous count of clicks on links that lead to other websites (for example a partner banner or a dealer's website or phone number). These counts contain no identifier of any kind and cannot be linked to you or to a session. We do not use cookies to sell your information to third parties.
Legal disclosure
We may disclose personal information when required by law, such as in response to a valid court order, search warrant, or request from law enforcement. We may also disclose information to protect our rights, property, or safety, or that of our members and the public.
